banjon > Day 165 - Red Ice Abstract

I thought about taking some ice shots tonight. It really melts quickly. I had to freeze some more ice as I only had a few cubes to work with. I got two trays freezing to try some things tomorrow night. Some ideas I got tonight right after the ice all melted.

banjon > Day 164.2 - Mothman Cometh

When I saw this moth on the window, I loved how the light gave it this ominous look. It reminded me of a movie I saw, "The Mothman Prophecies". I liked it very much. Its about another species that lives among us on Earth, but they can't be seen or heard by us. They live in another dimension of time. They try to help us by sending visions via mental telepathy, but often times its in flashes, and the people who receive these visions think they are going insane. The visions from these moth men usually begin to appear when there is going to be a major catastrophe.

It's supposedly based on true accounts, where they've documented people getting these visions before major events. It makes you wonder. :)

banjon > Day 164.1 - Ready For Bed

I really like these flowers. They give a sense of being alive, not just part of the scenery. In the morning and mid-day, their petals spread out like a star burst, soaking up the suns rays. As the sun begins to set, they slowly retract their petals in the closed up-right position. Ready for bed.

banjon > Day 163 - Electrifying

...storm that is.

Tonight we had a lightning storm, a couple of big booms and a handful of flashes. After shutting down the computers, I thought about trying to capture lightning again. I've tried several times in the past, but the problem is the fog. Usually by the time the light show begins, the fog always creeps in to spoil the fun.

After I set up bulb mode and got the remote ready, I set it up and thought about grabbing the wide angle, because you never know where they strike. As I was digging for the lens, this huge flash of light occurred. I ran to see the result - wow. Not one, but two bolts!

This is the first successful lightning image I've taken. Woohoo!

You can see the fog rolling in as was illuminated by the strike. Another 10 minutes and it was hard to see the strikes, just clouds getting really bright then a boom.

This also marks another milestone - today I hit photo #40,000... :) addicted much.
I'm loving every minute of it. Thanks to everyone - your kind words and encouragement really helps. I love the daily photos, it really pushes you to be creative and selective.

banjon > Day 162 - Meet Wyatt

Wyatt is a playful Mastiff pup. He was great and loved the camera. We met him at a dock on the bay, watching the local fisherman trying their best to snag some large mouth bass which averages about 24 inches or more. I'm getting a hankering to pick up a rod and go fishing, but the gnats and flies like me too much.

banjon > Day 161 - Bun E. Wabbit

We were walking this trail near a lighthouse lookoff, just admiring the flowers, taking some photos and such. When out of the bush hopped this little guy about 3-4 feet from us. I whispered to Barb, rabbit don't move. hehe

So he was content while we snapped a dozen or so photos. He was very patient and remained eating away as Barb walked away. He did freeze for a moment, but continued soon after and I was able to get some closer shots, until the gravel I was on made a loud crunching noise, then he was gone. :)

It was a nice trip from Truro to Windsor, but man was it humid. I think it hit 90F/30C today with high humidity. On the way home, the fog greeted us as we entered Halifax, temps dropped by 20 degrees and we were loving the relief. You don't mind sweating all day, and freezing at night - pull the comforter up to get warm. LOL.

banjon > Day 160.1 - Sunset in Halifax

We were sitting on the couch when Barb said, I think you want to look outside. Earlier, the clouds were very heavy, which usually means no sunset. Fizzle to dark. When I opened the window, I was amazed and ran for the camera.

I loved the color - It was so nice, but ended very quickly as the fog started rolling in. Thats the thick clouds on the bottom tree line. They were moving rapidly, while the top clouds were moving slowly.

We've been seeing a few finches at the feeder. Thats in photo 2. I really love the color of these male finches.

We went shopping for clothes today - don't do that to often, its not on the top 10 list. Anyway, I saw one of those Gorilla pods, so I picked one up - I can use it as a small flash stand or tabletop tripod for the camera. It can hold the longer lenses upto 300mm. Look forward to trying that out. :)

banjon > Day 160.2 - American Yellow Finch male

They are quite comical to watch. Can be aggressive when the feeder becomes part of its territory. There is also a huge pecking order - I was three pairs battle out who could eat the seeds. I wonder if the beak size or colors signify whose alpha bird.

banjon > Day 159 - Nature's Canvas

Today the we were feeling the cool winds, or gusts, from the recent tropical storm that passed us by. As I was watching the leaves hanging on for dear life, and birds bobbing on branches getting wind-feather, I noticed the field of yellow wild flowers just swaying in time.

So I tried a few shots and dug out the ND8 filter to help with the longer exposure that was needed. This is one of a few nice shots I got of leaves and flowers swaying in the wind. I mounted the camera on a tripod and used manual focus, as there was hardly anything I could focus on - maybe a rock here or there, but had to wait til the wind calmed to get focus and leave it like that - then snap some shots on the next gust of wind.

I did notice a Robin hanging out in one of the trees. Literally. He stayed for about a good 10 to 15 minutes, letting me snap away while he rode the storm/wind out. It reminded me of someone trying not to spill a drop of beer, the whole body sways and moves, except the hand the beer is in. I thought I was watching him surfing for a few moments as it looked like he caught some wicked air waves. He even stretched his wings behind his head, sort of like knuckle cracking for birds I guess. He put up a good fight, held onto the branch best he could - feathers were all ruffled, you can tell he was getting perturbed messing his nice dew. After a while, he gave up and took shelter on the ground.

It was enjoyable to watch. Sure beats the heat.
