Back lit soap bottle using black and white foam boards to direct the light onto the soap.
The liquid soap can produce some interesting results. :)

banjon > Day 271 - One Second Of Sixty

Friday we saw some torrential winds reaching 60-70mph gusts. Trees bending back and forth, side to side, sometimes in circular motions. I thought for sure some trees would lose the battle with the wind, but they held their ground. Some younger trees were leaning a good 30 to 40 degrees, a little more and they may have uprooted.

This is one of those famous Nor'Easters. Temps jumped from -5C/22F, to 17C/68F in only a few short hours. We saw a calm, then the fog, then the rain, the wind, crazy wind, all throughout the day, then to top it off... snow around midnight where the temp dropped back to -10C! Wild stuff.

The tall pines were swaying about 2 feet at the tips. I set the camera on a tripod and set the shutter to one second. Its amazing how flexible these trees are. I loved watching the fluid motion of the branches in the wind. It looked as if the trees were dancing.

I heard the waves on the ocean were in the 35 to 45 feet range. A few friends told us the fishermen are having it hard, because they can't retrieve their lobster traps. Quiet a few boats were lost at sea. Many are worried because this is their peak time of the season.

Lobster dropped to $3/lb, and the fisherman can't survive on that. So many started selling them in parking lots at $5/lb. Its a very tough year for every one.

banjon > Day 270 - Sometimes We Need To Just Get Away..

Between long hours at work and not feeling well, trying to compose can become another pressure. So some time off was needed to regroup and last night the ideas started flowing again. :)

I was munching on some cherries, when I thought hmm.. I wonder. After the first shot, I knew I had a new best friend. Cherries are awesome to work with. I like how the light follows their shapes and shows some texture as well. The color ranges of red are really appealing. They are definitely more camera friendly than grapes! :)

banjon > Day 269 - Watching The Sun Set

People gather to watch the sun slowly disappear into the ocean. I always get a sense of anticipation when that time arrives. I just love to watch the colors get brighter and brighter, then slowly fade to dark. Its one of my favorite times of the day.

banjon > Day 268 - In The Mirror

Playing around with a cosmetic mirror where the magnified side gave off a nice color band distortion. So I worked with it and eventually reflected the colors from the TV revealing some nice coloring effects.

banjon > Day 267 - Passing Storm

Dark gray clouds still remain as the snow storm finishes it's fury, leaving a Winter Wonderland in it's wake. Just for a moment this morning, the sun broke through the dark skies to highlight snow covered trees and roads.

I really liked the soft greens in this White Pine mixing with the dark gray skies and bright white fresh snow. It still fascinates when the sun breaks through the clouds to shine on a one particular spot. :)

banjon > Day 266 - Winter's Return

It started off as a dismal, dreary day. Pouring rain and very dark skies. One of those days you want to just rollover and go back to bed.

We kept ourselves busy tonight. Barb made some lobster bisque (I still can't get over the prices here - 5 lb. of lobster for $23) with leeks that came out excellent. I made a German chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese icing. Barb said the cake was sinful. hehe Just what we needed to make a dreary day happy.

We heard there may be snow tonight, if conditions were remained in place. When I looked out the window tonight, we had a few inches on the ground. The foot and half we had all melted when we had the sudden surge of 65F/15C in November!

I added a blue tone to the desaturated image. I really like when snow clings to trees.

Chocolate Cream Cheese Icing

Ingredients
8 oz (225 g) Cream cheese (cold) (1 pkg)
1/3 cup (75 ml) (5 tblsp) Unsalted butter (room temp)
2 tsp (10 ml) Vanilla
2 cups (455 g) Icing sugar, sifted
1/4 cup (50 ml) strong coffee or water (lukewarm)
5 oz (145 g) Unsweetened or semi-sweet chocolate - 5 - 1oz squares.

Preperation
1. In a double boiler or in microwave, melt chocolate with choice of coffee or water. Stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool to lukewarm temperature.

2.In a medium sized bowl, beat cream cheese, unsalted butter, and vanilla just until blended

3. Add sifted icing sugar in 3 parts and beat until just blended. If the frosting is too stiff continue beating for a moment longer, but do not over beat.

4. Refrigerate for about 10 to 15 minutes until slightly stiff and easy spreading consistency.

Notes
Powdered sugar can be reduced to 1 tsp or as much as 1/2 cup per ounce of cream cheese.

Yeild: about 2 2/3 cups.

It tastes like chocolate moose. :)
banjon > Day 265 - Grand Desert

In Spring and Summer, much of the inlet is covered in sea grass. As winter approaches, the tall grasses go dormant and slowly disappear revealing channels throughout the inlet. Ducks and Canadian Geese will soon be arriving and will be a common sight.

There are 6 islands, one of which has a house. The marsh covers close to 18 kilometers/10 miles from the ocean, and is about 7 kilometers/5 miles wide. It's on the list as a Very Important Birding site. Over the past decades, birders have documented nearly 300 different species of birds in this area. The area has been well traveled by many birders.

I just mentioned to Barb, keep an eye out we might see a hawk. Only a few moments later, a harrier rose from the tall grasses and was hunting for prey. This becomes a busy place when the tide changes.

When the temp drops, the channels become ice canals. Layered in thick, shiny, red and blue ice.
