banjon > Day 134 - Super Cookie Nova

I learned today to always pay attention to your timer when baking cookies. What do to with a burned batch of Molasses cookies???

I know! Where's the camera.. after a few photos, I noticed the non-stick pan gave off this cool saturation of light when a flash was fired. To me it looked like a super nova or something exploding in space. The blue dot was courtesy of the LED flash light.

Now that I am done exposing my semi-failed baking attempt (1 under cooked, 2 excellent batches, and 1 burnt to a crisp lethal weapons), its off to the compost bin. :)

banjon > Day 133 - Gardening at Night

I used an LED flashlight to light our new flowers on the back porch.

Barb likes to get planter flowers for her B-Day. So we fill the planters with flowers each year and the both of us enjoy them all summer long. Still need to pick up a fuchsia plant.

I like the bright yellows of the Bidens, they bloom all summer long. I also liked the deep purples in the Petunias. When we saw the basket, we both said.. wow. :) Sold!

We learned from last year, it's very hard to start from seeds in this climate unless you have a green house. No wonder I had seen so many green houses around.

banjon > Day 132.2 - Copper Post

Sort of...

This is the same piece of plastic from photo 1 used with polarized sunglasses.

banjon > Day 132.1 - Unknown Light

I was digging around the house for something plastic, I did find something. So the trick with cross polarization is finding something that was injection molded. I need to pick up some film sheets to make this work better. :)

I did use a polarizer to help saturate the colors. I actually learned how to use my polarizer more effectively than just slapping it on for some nice blue sky shots. :) I've learned a lot in the last few days.

I did like the effects of the shades on the plastic, it gave off this copper tone color. (see photo 2 - http://banjon.smugmug.com/gallery/4356946_mQ7BB#321433884_A6oar )

So I played a bit more with my little box of goodies (things I collected to add neat effects).

If anyone feels like guessing - I can reveal it in a bit. :)

I'm stuck for a caption - I like flexible light, Barb thinks it looks like a vase. :)

Its a night light cover resting upside down on a DVD, on top of a flashlight. :)
banjon > Day 131 - A Rare Close up.

This is dedicated to our beloved cat, Patches.

Today was a very sad day. She was very ill and had to be put to rest.
She was very loved and will be missed. :(

She is no longer suffering and is in a better place.

banjon > Day 130 - Amber Light

I was reading up on the polarizing of clear plastic. Thinking I needed two polarizers to do this, I thought what about polarized sunglasses. Will they work? I started to play around with the polarizer, rotating the filter, when all of a sudden the amber colored sunglasses went jet black! :) cool!

I tried it on a few things, but do you believe I could only find my filter case that is clear plastic. That worked by the way, not as I hoped. So while I had the polarizer in hand and glasses in the other, I somehow positioned them that I could see the halogen lamp.

What I soon realized is the two polarized filters against the halogen lamp let me look right at the filament while the light was on full power. I then repositioned the glasses and found I can see the blue and purple light in the filament. I just need a bigger polarized surface. Maybe pick up a second cheaper polarizer to play with. :)

The color is from the amber sunglasses. I liked how the light bulb was back lit.

banjon > Day 129 - Candle Apples

I was trying those cutout filters to change the points of light to a shape, like a heart or other. Thats where the candles came from. Disappointed at my feeble attempts, I need to research that more. I did like the glow of the candles on the table. So I tried a few shots, and the bag of apples caught my eye - so I thought why not.. I wondered how the candles would light the apples. It reminded me of days past, and what it may have been like living by candlelight. I really liked the warm glow. Lucky thing, because my battery died as soon as it saved. Talk about timing. hehe

banjon > Day 128 - Alien King

Tried some color LEDs on a drinking glass. It produced some neat light casts, this was one of my favorites.

banjon > Day 127.1 - It's Beaver Time

This is one of the beavers (maybe thee beaver) that constructed the largest beaver dam, or fortress, that I've ever seen. The dam is about 6-8 feet high, and about 80-100 feet long. The water level is pretty much eye level, and has about 4 or 5 lodges built. Its definitely on the "must see" checklist of Eco-Tours in Nova Scotia. Located near Thomas's Cove in Economy, NS.

I've included a second photo showing part of the dam. I was planning on taking a long wide shot of the dam, but got so excited when Barb noticed the beaver in the water, I totally forgot about the wide angle. Oh well, I do have one from last year. :) After Barb pointed at the beaver, I slowly walked over and began shooting, we observed him swimming and eating, then eventually exiting to go back into the woods. I was surprised at how fast they move under water, but are very slow when walking on land.

Funny thing, as I was photographing the dam, another car pulled up, and a guy jumped out and the others remained in the car, he took 2 or 3 shots and then left. They spent a whole minute at the dam, too bad. If they only stopped and looked around, they would have seen the beaver as well.
