banjon > Day 236 - Morning Mist at Kearney Lake

I visited Kearney Lake early this morning. The mist was rising off the with Autumn colors in the background. As I was walking the along the lake, I sat on a rock to watch the trees get brighter, and brighter. When three ducks landed behind me, and then came within a foot of the shore where I sat. Eventually, coming round, right in front of me and to my surprise started to come on shore about 2 feet away from me. I never thought I'd say, backup you're too close for my 300mm.. :)

I was hoping to see one of the beavers in the mist, they were there. I usually would hear them after they submerged. Checking me out I guess. Saw lots of Chick-a-dees, Finches, and Sparrows. A sparrow just about walked into me before realizing I wasn't a tree. :)

I added some more photos from the morning out. (here)

banjon > Day 235 - Lake Catcha

While checking out Mines Road, we came upon Lake Catcha reflecting the late afternoon sky. I think the Autumn colors have finally peaked, and now starts the slow descent into Winter. (Gulp) Well there a few more weeks of Autumn to enjoy.

Hard to believe October is half over already! I remember as a kid, time took forever to arrive... now its gained so much momentum... I wish it would slow down. :)

banjon > Day 234 - Gulping Corn

Well they pretty much cleaned up all the seeds and corn. So as I started replenishing the bins, I had this odd feeling of being watched. As I looked around, I could hear chirps, then I spied a few blue jays waiting anxiously in the trees, to my right about a dozen Mourning Doves (where the heck did they come from - out for a cruise I guess), then I saw some Juncos not far from the porch, and of course the Chick-a-dees popped in to see what all the commotion was.

It felt like that scene in Snow White. hehe Anyway, I just get done filling all the bins, and as I go into the door, I turn around to close it and a Blue Jay swooped in on the railing. I looked at him, at first he didnt see me, then he did a double take.. as to say holy crap a human! He flew away, only to return about 10 seconds later once I closed the door.

It was partly cloudy today, sun popping in and out. Usually out when a bird came near the feeders. Then I got lucky and the sun shined for a few moments as this Blue Jay was gulping some cracked corn. The blue and white was really beautiful to see, along with the autumn colors of the trees in back. I really like the blue gradients on their feathers. Truly amazing.

What a difference the sun makes. :)

I heard the Gannets, Scooters, Eiders, and Red Throated Loons are flying in by the dozens. Maybe I'll see some tomorrow. :)

banjon > Day 233 - Autumn Blue Jay

We had a few visitors on the porch today. We put out some sunflower seeds, cracked corn, and peanuts after seeing some Juncos scrounging for seeds in our old flower beds.

This morning, the Blue Jays were in heaven. It was like an All You Can Eat buffet for birds.

banjon > Day 232 - Autumn Leaves Collage

At lunch today, it was so nice out, I decided to take a walk on the trail (where the lady was walking her bike). The sun helped me get some really nice foliage shots today. Along with a few shots of a bee, red dragon fly, and a big green grasshopper. :) Usually they all flee when I walk the trail.

There were so many nice photos, Barb suggested doing a collage today. I tried gathering some of the color backgrounds to give the feel of Autumn. I really love the colors. I think its the first Autumn that we had the chance to get out and really enjoy the foliage closeup. Usually we just admired it's lovely colors from afar.

I added some more photos to the Fall gallery (here)

banjon > Day 231 - Oceanic Plant

One day while walking along one of the beaches, Barb noticed this plant. I thought it might have been some sort of crab shell, because it was hard and white. When she turned it over, we saw the root and it looked like it was dead for quite some time as the top had solidified like calcium and eventually cracked.

It looks like it might be some sort of lily pad, or other plant life. Barb thinks it's a fossilized mushroom because it really does resemble a mushroom. After checking some sites, I see that it does resemble some type of rooted leafy plant. I thought maybe its a form of coral, as there are coral reefs located on the Eastern shore, but I think their colors are more pinkish like bubblegum.

Not too many sites show photos of aquatic plant life. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? I find it really interesting, especially the intricate root system.

banjon > Day 230 - Beautiful Day for a Bike Ride

The weather forecast called for rain, but Mother Nature disagreed. It turned out to be a beautiful Autumn day. A few more trees changed colors today, looking more and more like Fall. I was hoping the deer might stop by for their yearly pose, but a lady enjoying her day out will also do fine.

This is the empty field behind our apartment. There are well worn paths, that people tend to travel from time to time. I really love the view of the rocks and trees, especially in fall.

banjon > Day 229 - Autumn Pond

We visited Oakfield today to enjoy the changing of the leaves. The days are upon us when nature's palette will be released. In the meantime, we watched a few ducks enjoy the afternoon sun.

banjon > Day 228 (1/2) - Red on Blue

The sunlight illuminated these red maple leaves, which were reaching out over the river.

I was so glad they caught my eye, because the sun really cooperated and let me create some great photos.

Check out the other photos from along the river bed. (Fall Album)

I included a second shot because I really loved the bokeh of the water and leaves together.
