banjon > Day 358 - Pineapple Daisy

Took some photos of a pineapple today. I like all the different shades of yellow.

In other news, most of the snow had nearly melted today,
so Old Man Winter quickly stirred up a fresh new batch.
yaaaa more snow! (can you feel the sarcasm)

I tried serenading Barb with "It's beginning to look a lot like ..." to which I received her trademarked 'look'.
So that ended that. :)

The orange center is caused by side lighting the pineapple - it causes an orange glow inside the pineapple core. I then bounced that light onto a white board to highlight the top of the pineapple. The camera was positioned directly above the pineapple.

banjon > Day 357 - Sparkling Ice

As the sun was about to set, I noticed a few remaining patches of ice slowly melting in the warm temps and the droplets of water were refracting light. So as I was getting closer to the window, I thought it might look neat through the mesh screens. I remember a few months ago how the screens can pixelate the sunlight at the right angle. When I looked through the view finder, I didn't expect this! Hundreds or more tiny little star bursts, all different colors. The closer you look the more star bursts you see. The effect reminded me of looking at something in deep outer space.

banjon > Day 356 - Glass Bell

Trying some more dark room photos.

I bounced the flash off a white pillow. Love how the quilt responded with a lovely red.

For those interested, the door photo on day 354 was a flash placed low behind the door, back a few feet or so, with green tissue paper covering the flash. Barb thought I was nuts lying on the floor photographing a door. hehe She didn't see the green illuminations. :)

banjon > Day 355 - Water on the Move

I was too exhausted last night to come up with an ideas.
Digging through my archives, I found a photo of slow moving water taking time to reflect. :)

banjon > Day 354 - What Awaits...

Had some ideas working with the flash and green tissue paper.

This is the 2nd go, trying to get the lighting right. I had some neat effects, but I noticed it has to be totally dark to help with the green gradient. I found the setup to be very challenging. It's not so much the lighting behind the door, its the way the light falls in the dark foreground. It must be due to the analog to digital conversion that is causing shadow pixeling. I definitely want to pursue to see how to beat those blasted pixels. Sort of like a dark scene on a DVD - waves of pixelized gradients. Any suggestions would be great. I thought about a remote flash trigger or longer exposures.

We got snow last night - not much a few inches. Oh well. Winter's back. :(

banjon > Day 353 - Blue Water

Droplets in a water bottle - slightly out of focus.
I like the different lines in the droplets, some appear to have been moving.

banjon > Day 352 (1/2) - Sunset Bands

Its been so windy and cold the last few days, when sunset arrives there is hardly a cloud in the sky and everything goes dark a few minutes after the sun sets. We actually had hint of a possible early Spring for a day or two. I've lost track of how much snow we got this year, but frankly, I can wait for the white stuff to disappear. I think even the birds have had enough. :)

Nice thing when its windy, we get these nice low lying clouds that look like ribbons in the sky. Often times, you can see the different fronts moving in causing large puffy clouds on the left and ribbons on the right.

I also included a 2nd shot of the sun setting in the thicket.

banjon > Day 352 (2/2) - Sunset Thicket

Caught the setting over the ridge through the tree branches and thicket.
One of only a few nice sunsets this year so far. We were reminded today its still Winter, as snow began to fall again. Everyone shared the same feelings... "Not more #@#!@ snow!" Thankfully it was only a flurry blizzard that lasted only an hour or so and was gone. Phew!

banjon > Day 351 - Cold As Ice

Had some fun with ice cubes and a crystal glass tonight. The ice cubes were still opaque a few minutes after taking them out of the freezer. I banked the flash upward onto a downward facing white board to help light up the ice and inside of the glass. Adjusted the height of the flash as not to light the black foam core board on the bottom. The camera was aimed directly above the glass.

I really have to get some gobo stands. Pillows and contorting my body works for now. hehe :)
