banjon > Day 292 - Auburn

In the colder temperatures, nudging the hay from underneath the fresh cover of snow seems to cling very easily to the hairs around their mouths. I was glad they let me take a few photos before moving on.

I really liked how the sun highlighted the color of their furry winter coats. The auburn color reminded me of my hair color when I was younger.

banjon > Day 105 - Time to Relax

Barb's favorite drink (every few months or so), a Dry Martini using Gin and Vermouth with three olives. :)

Disclaimer: Although the olives became waterlogged, No Alcohol was harmed in the making of this photograph at any time. I used water as the beverage of choice, saving the good stuff for Barb. :)

banjon > Day 259 - Big Lake Twilight

Taken near McGrath's Cove a few miles northeast of Peggy's Cove. The highway that leads from Halifax to Peggy's Cove and then to the Head of St Margaret's Bay has many small and large lakes, inlets, and coves with a few lobster boats here and there.

All along this road you catch glimpses of the ocean or bay depending on which way you head back to Halifax. I love rolling down the windows, even in winter, just to smell the fresh sea air. You do have to watch for sea mist (black ice) on windy cold days.

I always love the information sign as you leave Peggy's Cove:

   <== Halifax ==>

Its the same distance no matter which direction you choose. What they don't tell you is, take the road to the left if you want the straight and narrow, head to the right if you are up for some thrill seeking curves and hills. Great family fun!

We learned quickly, when you see these cute checkerboard signs take heed of the posted speed. If it states 40KPH, DO NOT GO 1KPH over that limit. I think they must of actually measured the speed at which two of the four wheels will lift off the ground on these hairpin turns. You learn quick after a few incidents where you wipe the sweat from your brow, and just about blurt, Holy S.. and you are into the next turn. Its a great driving experience, not so fun in the fog. Funny thing is people who live in this area drive at break neck speeds (even when its snowing!). They probably would make good Formula-1 drivers.

banjon > Day 138 - Orange Sunset

Lots of wind and sun today, better than fog for the last two or three days.
Looking forward to having tomorrow off. :)

banjon > Day 340 - Flower Plate

A nice hand painted plate we came across one day. We really liked the colors and pattern.

banjon > Day 323 - Sunset Marsh

Its a photo of a painting I did a few years ago. I have Barb to thank for introducing me to watercolors and oils. Prior to that I only dabbled with ebony pencils and pastels. I would really like to pick up painting again one day. I really like the blending of colors.

Using the fill flash has really brought out the colors in this work. It reminds me of the sunsets seen in many of coves in Nova Scotia.

banjon > Day 356 - Glass Bell

Trying some more dark room photos.

I bounced the flash off a white pillow. Love how the quilt responded with a lovely red.

For those interested, the door photo on day 354 was a flash placed low behind the door, back a few feet or so, with green tissue paper covering the flash. Barb thought I was nuts lying on the floor photographing a door. hehe She didn't see the green illuminations. :)

banjon > Day 172.1 - Trapped in a Bottle

This is a very large crystal decanter. I like how the sides appear to be a swirling blue light.

A few years ago, we were given this hand carved, hand painted, wooden mask from a friend in Malaysia. I really like the colors and detail in the mask. When I was taking shots of the decanter, just for fun I thought I'd try to see if I could see something through the glass. :)

To create the effect of a Genie in the bottle, I placed the mask about a foot behind the decanter, giving the illusion of it actually being inside the bottle. :)

banjon > Day 121 - Rollin Thunder

Well.. :) Its a glass mosaic ball made from different colors of glass. Its a red ball by day, and colorful ball at night. I used the LED once again, but from inside the ball. I like how the color glass cast a pattern on to the surface. I tried to give the ball a sense of motion, sort of like rolling along making a thundering sound. :)
